Eszopiclone 3 mg is a prescription sedative-hypnotic medication used for the treatment of insomnia, including difficulty falling asleep, staying asleep, or waking up too early. It belongs to a class of drugs called non-benzodiazepine hypnotics (Z-drugs), which act on the brain to produce a calming and sleep-inducing effect. Eszopiclone works by enhancing the activity of GABA (gamma-aminobutyric acid), a natural chemical in the brain that slows down nervous system activity. This helps reduce brain overactivity, allowing the body to relax and fall into a more natural sleep state.

It is usually taken immediately before bedtime, only when the user can get a full night of sleep (7–8 hours). Taking it on an empty stomach may help it work faster. Patients should avoid taking it after a heavy meal, as this can delay its effect. Common side effects include drowsiness, dizziness, dry mouth, headache, unpleasant taste, and next-day sleepiness. Some people may experience impaired coordination or memory issues. Rare but serious effects include sleep behaviors such as sleepwalking or performing activities while not fully awake. Eszopiclone should not be combined with alcohol, opioids, or other sedatives, as this can increase the risk of severe drowsiness, breathing problems, and overdose. Long-term use may lead to dependence or tolerance, so it is generally prescribed for short-term or intermittent use.
